And if you want a misery-loves-company moment, head over to Lisa Belkin’s NYTimes parenting blog where a woman is currently being raked over the coals for having the temerity to adopt a 6 year old girl from China. (Why so old? Why rename her? Why not the US? Why do you think you deserve a girl, anyway?) The tone of the comments would be more appropriate to casually mentioning that you drown unwanted puppies. I thought of you and your trolls immediately. Can’t win for losing sometimes!

Yesterday, my mother took a bath while I sat on the toilet seat with my baby on my lap. It was the most natural thing in the world to us, always has been.

I think that if you react that violently to a mother being naked in front of her daughters, you should seriously consider having your head checked.

Hi Jenn. If you are not a regular reader of article comments, perhaps you haven’t heard of the “troll” These are people whose everyday existence depends on making hateful and mean comments about otherpeoples lives. Most thoughtful commentators will tell you trolls are to be ignored, I know thats hard for you, it would be for me, too. But how excellent to have gotten an article out there that is so thought provoking! Hope there are many more to come..

Your Mama is great. You’re great. I’d say your girls have a much better than average chance at greatness too.

One more Nakedgate comment for those who suggest that being open about our (yes, me too) less than perfect bodies will somehow encourage unhealthy habits in our kids , I say

EAT RIGHT. EXERCISE REGULARLY. THEN ACCEPT WHATEVER GENETIC SHAPE THAT LEAVES YOU WITH. CHANCES ARE YOU WILL EVENTUALLY RESEMBLE YOUR MOTHER BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY IT WORKS.

I have been on vacation and just got back. Just read the article and Jenn, you have no business caring what those crazy people think. Do what you do and don’t look back. I thoroughly enjoy what you write and if some nutjob doesn’t, well that’s their loss. My kids sing all the time, too, and I don’t think even the sight of my butt would stop it. No pun intended, but the negative critics can blow it out their a**!

I’ve been offline for a while so I had to check and see what all the hoopla was about.

Oh, good gravy what the heck is wrong with people, are they that strung tight they saw something wrong in what was (in my opinion) a beautiful written piece. Your daughters will grow up to have the healthiest outlook on life thanks to you. Don’t let the ignorant idiots get to you. Those kinds of people are a dime a dozen. However you my friend are that rare joy in the mix.
