I wrote about tending the fire recently, although, Christ, this is light years better than anything I could come up with on my best writing day.

Fire is restorative and contemplative and just plain soothing. “I tend. I heed. I do what is needed, one piece of wood at a time.” Exactly, this.

The fire is so mesmerizing and ancient. My husband and I–sitting at a campfire after the kids are tucked into sleepingbags–have lost track of our voices, staring silently into the fire, totally engaged.

Your words warm. (thanks for keeping us updated as you’re on your writing retreat – I’m still wondering: memoir, fiction, book about eco-dogs?)
