Lookin’ good! Now I feel like I want to help David paint the cabinet doors for the lower spaces. This is shaping up so nicely.
I like how you have toxic cleaning chemicals in open cupboards within easy reach of young, naive children who like to put stuff in their mouths. Could be a good opportunity for discipline though:
“Mommy, my tummy hurts and my poo’s a funny colour!”
“That’s just the ghosts punishing you for hitting your sister yesterday, Sweetie.”
If it were my home, I’d guess 14 hours.
But it looks amazing!
Truly gorgeous… such a sunny peaceful room!
I had those same kind of cabinets you did and I despise them with the heat of a thousand white hot suns. The only reason I haven’t done anything about them is that I’ve painted cabinets before — twice as a matter of fact — and I despise that even more. Cause even when you THINK they’re dry, as soon as you hang them up and close them, then OH LOOK! they’re really not dry after all and have pulled the paint off the opposing surface. Fun!
I love the open look but my cabinets are NEVER neat enough to even attempt!
It looks lovely, but there is no way I could ever keep open cupboards looking organized!
Umm, would it be rude of me to guess that they already look…different? It certainly wouldn’t last in my house.
Lovely! No bets here, but I give you credit for trying! Still love that color blue…
Looks lovely. The closest I could come to open shelves — even though I wanted to try them — was opaque glass. Mrs. Kitchen should be proud.
I think that there will be frequents interludes of refreshing, straight-from-a-magazine appeal. Honestly I do.
I give it until the weekend. Optimistically.
On a brighter note, the colour of your dishes are a perfect complement to the Whipple Blue. How do I remember the name that you painted your cupboards. It feels kind of creepy and stalkerish.
Oooo, and the dishes match the beautiful beautiful walls! Love it!
The artistic genes rampant in your family will triumph over entropy in the cupboard; however, I’m fairly sure that chaos will reign supreme over the drainboard. Win a few, lose a few.
Janet, to me Whipple Blue sounds like a good porn name.
BTW, the color on the walls resembles the Heppelwhite Ivory I painted my hallways – also from the Benjamin More Hisorical collection. It looks neutral on the chip but comes out a beautiful butter color on the walls.
Oh, blue and yellow. I’m drooling over here!
I’m giving you the benefit and thinking they’ll stay like that a long time. I’ve read, and experienced, that when things are easy to put away – you’re more likely to put them away. So, in your case you’ll keep them cute & tidy because it’s easy.
Or, maybe I’m just blowing smoke
Thanks for feeding my voyeuristic tendencies.
Oh, Oh, I say that they will stay like that until a thick layer of dust builds up on the shelves and you finally get fed up enough to get the old sheets out and pin them up as a ‘make shift’ door!
It sure does looks purty ! Your painter has worked long and hard.
Where did you hide the sippy cups?
Your dishes match your walls! How awesome is that? I want my walls to match at least some of my dishes.
I wouldn’t dare be so brave as to leave my kitchen cupboards undoored. It would only be a matter of time until a mighty stuffalanche killed someone.
Your kitchen looks awesome! Way to go. Having re-painted our kitchen cabinets in our first house on the west coast, I can safely say…it ‘sucks!!!!” uhm…excuse my language. Seriously though, it’s really hard work and you both deserve big kudos. Can you come paint my front porch next?
Nice! Can I bring some of my overflow up to fill your lovely shelves?
Tune in next week… when Jenn runs with the theme and takes the hood off of her car and the lid off of her toilet seat.
The whole family gets into the spirit as Sophie leaves the lid off of the peanut butter, Hattie pulls the door off of the refrigerator and David walks around with his fly open.
Wow Jenn, It looks great.
Of course, the trend of this website is to auction off everything David paints so….
Do you think all that openness will get them a slot on reality TV?
Ooh, Fiestaware! I have Juniper green and cobalt blue. That’s a lovely, sunny yellow! Looks nice!
BTW, in my house that would last until my husband unloaded the dishwasher.
Our top cabinets have glass doors that date way, way back to old. (Read: before the invention of textured glass.) We’ve managed to keep dishes and glasses and such organized in a reasonably passable viewing manner for eight years. You can do it!
One word – Dust.
Gorgeous. And I bet they stay like that, period.
I’m going to do my kitchen now. You’ve inspired me.
I think it’s adorable how some folks think you’ve never heard of dust. Awww *whooshy whooshy*.
Love love LOVE the colors. We’re redoing our kitchen right now and I am truly obsessed with seeing what other folks are doing.
Jenn: It looks very, very nice. The open shelves look great…pretty to display things and easy access. I personally like the idea of doors with glass (clear or frosted) because it still gives that open, clean look, but you don’t have the issue of dust collecting on the shelves. But I love what you’ve done. BTW, I also loved Spot’s comment.
Have a great day! And enjoy the remodeling.
I’m having such remodeling envy right now. If I don’t lie down, I think I’ll start ripping the late ’60′s wallpaper off my kitchen walls right now. Great colors, too.
You’re back! I just discovered and read all the new posts! Thanks for more kitchen porn–I watched an hour of HGTV before this, so, obviously, now need a cigarette thanks to your shelves. The blue and yellow is beautiful. What are you going to hang above your sink?
Bossy loves her open shelves because it keeps her from buying unnecessary dishware: You can’t clutter what’s not there.
It looks great.
(Bossy missed you at the BlogHer convention. Come on over to Bossy’s place for a recap)

okay… you’re in inspiration with a paintbrush, too. Sigh. Now if I could only find my way out of this cupboard to buy some paint….
There is a sign in the paint dept of our local Home Depot that states something to the effect-
“We will not mix custom paint for Husbands without a signed note from the Wife”
In my next life I’m going to name colors…….
I truly appreciate the amount of work you’ve done, looks great!
It’s beautiful!!!! Congrats
Cute!! We have the same cobalt mugs and teapot. I never use mine, do you? I’ve found it too heavy to lift, hot to the touch, and messy to pour. But it looks cute wiith the matching unusable candleholders in the windowsill above my sink.
I am confident Mrs Kitchen LOVES it, but don’t you remember renovations often bring on paranormal activities???
Are you having more activity? Maybe you can put them to work and get your floors done!!
(HEY THE SECURITY CODE IS HOTTY!!)
